DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM will participate in ART DÜSSELDORF, 31. Mar–02. Apr 2023, with a solo booth by MONTY RICHTHOFEN. Richthofen subjects conventional values, pop-culture phenomena, and life’s profound questions, to critical scrutiny by way of a playful, unfiltered use and awareness of language. Within the installation for Art Düsseldorf, Richthofen exhibits a series of text-based light boxes, paintings and drawings hung on scaffolding towers and graffitied walls.
A paradox of sorts emerges between the nature of Richthofen’s writings and their curation. The notes are messy, and the handwriting is often difficult to read, with words and letters falling into one another or crossed out completely. Seemingly spilling onto the page quickly from mind to pen, with little thought given to their presentation, these writings act as a visual representation of the artist’s unfiltered musings.

Oder auch, mit lustigem Umlaut: ‚Ünimaginably Stupid‘. Richthofens Praxis wurzelt im Graffiti, und auch die menschliche Haut macht er gern zur Leinwandfür seine Worte, wenn er Tattoos sticht.

DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM wird mit einer Einzelpräsentation von MONTY RICHTHOFEN an der diesjährigen ART DÜSSELDORF, 31. März–02. April 2023, teilnehmen.Richthofens spielerischer Umgang mit Sprache stößt sich nicht an scheinbar unvereinbaren Paradoxien, wenn er sich popkulturellen wie tiefgründigen Themen widmet und helle Lichtstrahlen sich in den vermeintlich dunklen Bruchstellen der Realität verlieren. In Rahmen der Messe wird Richthofen eine Installation mit textbasierten Leuchtkästen, Leinwänden sowie neuen Zeichnungen ausstellen, die unter anderem an Gerüsttürmen und besprühten Wänden angebracht sein werden.
